Obituary of Nina Krasnova

Please share a memory of Nina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nina Krasnova, the most kind, thoughtful, generous and wise person we were lucky to have in our lives, passed away on August 14, 2023, at the age of 83, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Krasnova means “beautiful” in Russian, and Nina brought beauty, love, and humor to everyone around her. Even while sick, she spent her energy helping others.

Nina earned two Masters degrees, one in physics and one in philology, from Kharkov State University in Ukraine.  She met her beloved husband, Dorian, when both worked at the Kharkov Institute of Metrology. She also spent many years working as an editor both in Ukraine and in New York.

Nina lived an adventurous life---she climbed mountains, rafted on wild rivers, hiked and gardened. However, her greatest passion was her family and she was happiest when talking and laughing with her beloved granddaughter, Darina.

Nina had great appreciation for opera and poetry, and she memorized poems simply by reading them. She tried to instill this appreciation in her children and granddaughter, however, it is still a work in progress.

Nina is our greatest treasure and will be forever missed by her children, Anna and Anton, her son-in-law Bernd, her granddaughter Darina, and all her friends and family in the U.S. and Ukraine.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Glen Spey Cemetery at 12 noon followed by a backyard reception.
